Our new 'Things To Do' Guide listing free, family-friendly events, activities and exhibitions taking place across University visitor attractions this Spring and Summer season is now available.

The new 12-page guide, includes highlights from each venue including, the Oriental Museum, Botanic Garden, Museum of Archaeology, World Heritage Site Visitor Centre and Durham Castle. Theses venues welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors every year, with each one delivering its own programme of activities to educate and inspire visitors through their collections and exhibitions.

The Botanic Garden has announced a series of summer themed events, including the annual Fun Day on Sunday 16 June. The Garden will also be hosting a Teddy Bear's Picnic, Storytelling and Crazy Creature events for visitors of all ages as part of the summer programme.

'Things To Do' details this summer's exhibitions launching in May. These include 'Under Durham' a new exhibition at the Museum of Archaeology, which will explore Durhams' history through the ordinary people who lived and worked here and the everyday objects they left behind.

The major exhibition at the Oriental Museum this summer also launching in May, marks the centenary of the 1924 Mount Everest Expedition through the photographs of local mountaineer Bentley Beetham.

The Oriental Museum will also be hosting its regular programme of family-friendly sessions for children aged 5 – 11 years old. The sessions are inspired by the collections and exhibitions in the Museum and offer the opportunity for children to make their own crafts and artwork to take home.

Visitors can enjoy guided tours of Durham Castle all year round, where experienced volunteer guides share the history and stories of the castle. While the World Heritage Site Visitor Centre within Palace Green Library also welcomes visitors to learn about the history of the UNESCO site.

The guide also provides information on the Team Durham Holiday Camps run at Maidan Castle Sports and Wellbeing Park over the school holidays. The Camps focus on sports and activities for young people, allowing them to develop new skills and make new friends.
