Tow trucks targeted during compliance Operation Tilt in Bankstown

Officers from Bankstown Traffic & Highway Patrol, Bankstown Local Area Command, Roads & Maritime Inspectors and NSW Fair Trading inspected a number of tow trucks within the Bankstown Local Area Command as part of an ongoing compliance operation yesterday, NSW Police say.

Operation Tilt ran between 7am and 12.30pm yesterday, with officers conducting safety audits on 14 tow trucks in the Bankstown area.

During inspections nine infringements and six defect notices were issued for various offences, including one tow truck that was issued infringements for obscured plates, defective brakes and exceeding gross mass limit.

NSW Police Traffic & Highway Patrol Commander, Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy said joint compliance operations are run regularly to ensure the safety of all road users.

"Given the important work tow truck operators perform, their trucks need to be maintained to a high standard to be able to operate on our roads.

"Traffic & Highway Patrol Command will continue to engage with road and regulatory authorities to ensure those using vehicles to provide a service to other road users do so safely

"Our duty is to keep the public safe on all roads, and we make no apologies for issuing infringements and defect notices to any vehicle that does not comply with safety standards," Assistant Commissioner Corboy said.
