Two charged after brawl in Newcastle

Police have charged two people with affray following at Newcastle yesterday. , NSW Police say

About 6pm yesterday, police were called to Morgan Street, Merewether, following reports a large group of people were fighting outside a licensed premises.

Two men were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for minor facial injuries.

Officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command attended and several people were arrested; however, released pending further inquiries.

Later in the evening, a 24-year-old man was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station.

A second 24-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of this morning today, and also taken to Newcastle Police Station.

The men were both charged with affray and one of the men was additionally charged with possess prohibited drug.

They were both given conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 10 November 2016.

Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
