UK's DVLA Expands Driver Account Service with Two More Features

DVLA has today (9 April 2024) announced that motorists can now renew the photo on their driving licence and apply for a first provisional licence through its Driver and vehicles account service.

These are 2 of DVLA's highest volume driving licence transactions and are the latest in several additions made to the Driver and vehicles account service. More than 890,000 people have signed up for an account since it was launched less than a year ago.

Along with the current features, such as opting to receive vehicle tax reminders by text or email rather than relying on paper reminders sent through the post, account holders can now complete a 10-year renewal of their photocard driving licence through the Driver and vehicles account.

Motorists will be able to track their application, see details of their new driving licence once issued and choose whether to upload their own photo, or allow DVLA to digitally access and use their existing passport photo through its secure link with HM Passport Office. This service is part of DVLA's ambitious digital transformation plan, which puts customers at the centre of its services, with the aim of building digital services so good that people choose to use them over other channels.

First provisional drivers with an account can also view their provisional driving licence and add a vehicle registered in their name.

These additional services come after it was announced last October that commercial drivers could view their Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) and tachograph information through the Driver and vehicles account service.
