Western Australians Gain from Expanded EV Rebate Scheme

NALSPA

The National Automotive Leasing and Salary Packaging Association (NALSPA) has backed the Western Australian Government's expansion of its Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) Rebate Scheme.

As Western Australians embrace electric vehicles, the Cook Government will invest a further $5.2 million dollars to meet demand for the rebate. The ZEV scheme provides a $3,500 rebate for people who purchase an eligible electric vehicle.

NALSPA chief executive Rohan Martin said as consumers navigate cost-of-living pressures, they are becoming aware that it's more affordable than ever to buy an EV in WA.

"From the outer suburbs of Armadale to Ashby, Western Australians are embracing electric vehicles. It's financial incentives like the WA Government's that will help to continue to support uptake in EVs," Mr Martin said.

"The cost savings for Western Australians who purchase an EV are significant. Not only can Western Australians claim $3,500 back on their EVs thanks to the WA Government, they can also save thousands of extra dollars every year when they salary package an EV with the help of the Federal Government's FBT EV exemption. Plus they save on maintenance costs and do away with volatile petrol costs.

"Motorists who opt for a salary-packaged EV make even further savings through GST-free benefits and lower taxable income. Together with the Cook Government's EV rebate, it's a game-changer for Western Australians looking to move into a zero emissions car.

"Western Australian employers are encouraged to make sure their employees are aware of the significant savings that are available for a salary packaged EV."
