Witness appeal after pedestrian struck by car in Maidstone

Police are appealing for information after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Maidstone Tuesday evening, Victoria Police say.

A Toyota Prado 4WD was travelling east on Ballarat Road, between Bosquet and Short streets, when a man ran in front of the vehicle just after 6.10pm on 25 July.

The driver, a 74-year-old Footscray man, was unable to stop his vehicle in time and struck the pedestrian.

He then pulled over immediately to render assistance.

The pedestrian, a 69-year-old man, was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.

Police from Westgate Highway Patrol are investigating and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the pedestrian in the lead up to the incident to contact police.

The pedestrian was wearing thongs at the time of the collision and police believe he was alcohol affected.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
