Woman arrested for assaulting police officer and resisting arrest in Nowra

A woman has been arrested and charged after she allegedly assaulted a police officer and resisted arrest in Nowra yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 12.50pm yesterday, officers stopped a vehicle for a random drug and alcohol test on Hollaway Road.

While officers were conducting a licence check, the driver, a 24-year-old man, fled the scene and a search failed to locate him. A 32-year-old woman was the front seat passenger of the vehicle.

About 2.50pm, police attended a residence on Quiberon Street, Nowra, and obtained consent to search the property. The 32-year-old woman, a resident in the property, blocked the path of officers and claimed the driver was not there.

Police will allege despite repeated verbal warnings from officers, the woman refused to move and pushed an officer in the chest. She then punched another officer before she was arrested.

The driver of the vehicle was located hiding under a bed in the same location.

Both were taken to Nowra Police Station and the woman was charged with hinder police, two counts of assault police and resist arrest.

The man was charged with breach of bail, unlicensed never held (third offence), hinder police, state false name and defect offences.

Both were granted bail to face Nowra Local Court on Monday (26 September 2016).
