Woman posing as security charged with stealing from fashion outlet in Paddington

A woman will appear in court next month after being charged with stealing clothes from a fashion sale where she had earlier claimed to be a security officer, NSW Police say.

About 12.50pm on Friday 24 February 2017, a 43-year-old woman entered a premise on Oxford Street, and claimed to be a security guard employed to conduct covert loss prevention duties.

Police have been told the woman allegedly made herself known to staff and it was noticed that she left and re-entered the premises on several occasions.

Shortly before 3pm the woman was observed to be placing clothing in plastic bags and she was stopped by security staff.

Police from Surry Hills Local Area Command attended and 17 items of clothing, worth several thousand dollars, were allegedly located.

The woman was arrested and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.

She was later charged with shoplifting and carry on security activity without licence.

The Mcmasters Beach woman was granted bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 23 March 2017.
