Council will begin work on a new footpath connecting Station Street to Fern Street in Mullumbimby mid-April, thanks to $711,800 in funding from the NSW Government.

The 200 metres of footpath will be built on the southern side of Fern and Stations Streets and will continue to Stuart Street.

"As well as improving pedestrian safety, the new path will provide a greatly anticipated link for the community through this residential area of Mullumbimby all the way into town and to shops, services and schools," Byron Shire Council's Director Infrastructure Services, Phil Holloway said.

Road widening and new kerbing will also be installed on the corner of Fern Street and Station Street.

The works are a priority project of Council's Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan.

The footpath works are expected to take around three weeks to complete, weather permitting.
