Global law firm Ashurst has advised Mainstream Renewable Power on its consortium arrangements in Gippsland Skies which proposes to develop a 2.5 GW offshore wind project off the Gippsland region of Victoria.
Mainstream Renewable Power is a pure-play renewable energy company with wind and solar assets across global markets, including in the UK, Latin America, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. Gippsland Skies is a consortium of Australian and international companies. It is comprised of Mainstream Renewable Power (35%), Reventus Power (35%), AGL Energy (20%) and Direct Infrastructure (10%).
Gippsland Skies is one of six project proponents awarded a feasibility licence from the Australian Government this week for projects to be developed in the Gippsland Declared Area.
The Gippsland offshore wind zone was the first area to be declared in Australia for offshore wind development; these are the first projects to be awarded feasibility licences. Each of the successful proponents can now exclusively assess the feasibility of their projects in their respective licensed areas before applying for commercial licences to construct and operate their projects.
