Man Charged Over Elderly Ballarat North Assault

A man has been charged following the assault of an elderly man in Ballarat North yesterday afternoon.

The 90-year-old victim spotted a man in his neighbour's backyard on Walker Street and confronted him about 4.15pm.

The alleged thief then attacked the man, pushed him to the ground, stole his phone and fled the scene.

The Ballarat North man sustained serious injuries because of the fall and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The alleged offender was arrested a short time later on Walker Street by police without incident.

A 33-year-old man, of no fixed place of abode, has been charged with robbery and assault.

He has been remanded to appear at Ballarat Magistrates' Court on 3 May.
