Shetty MP Urges Labor Govt to Act on Road Closures

Australian Greens

Transport for NSW have released plans for lengthy road closures and the removal of parking spaces in the Inner West areas of Rozelle and Lilyfield. Evans Street in Rozelle is scheduled for a 46-day closure, while Lamb Street in Lilyfield will be closed for 86 days.

This disruption comes after years of upheaval as a result of WestConnex, including months of traffic chaos following the opening of the Rozelle Interchange.

Kobi Shetty MP says:

"I am calling on the NSW Labor Government to intervene in this situation, and to prioritise the needs of local residents.

"The Labor Government need to take responsibility for the ongoing impact these toll-road projects are having on locals. I want a firm commitment from the government that they will look out for residents by guaranteeing an appropriately staged approach that will minimise impacts on our community.

"We absolutely cannot have a repeat of what residents were forced to endure with WestConnex, where we saw residents given noise cancelling headphones and bare minimum support, before being forced to sign non-disclosure agreements to keep them quiet.

"I am sick of our community being put last, while the government forges ahead with new toll road projects. We are rapidly approaching HSC dates, and the last thing I want to see is school aged children and their families facing even more stress as a result of road closures and loud construction noise.

"The Labor Government need to do better. I will be urgently seeking assurances from the Minister that action will be taken to minimise the impacts on residents. We cannot have another project forced on our community, that will cause this much disruption, without adequate care being taken to look after those impacted."
