The campaign for 2024 World Environment Day officially kicks off on 28 April in Riyadh, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. World Environment Day, which takes place every year on 5 June, is the biggest international day for the environment.

Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), WED brings together millions of people in government, business, civil society, schools and celebrities engaging online and in-person to raise awareness and influence environmental action.

This year, Saudi Arabia is hosting World Environment Day with a focus on restoring land, halting desertification and building drought resilience.

Up to 40 per cent of the worlds land is already degraded, while an estimated 3.2 billion people worldwide are negatively impacted by desertification, and more than three-quarters of the worlds population is expected to be affected by droughts by 2050.
