Police have made an emergency declaration following a gas leak in Surfers Paradise, Queensland Police say.
The leak was detected this afternoon around 5.40, and a declaration under the Public Safety and Preservation Act this evening at 10.27pm.
The boarders of the declaration are View Avenue to the Esplanade, Surfers Paradise Boulevard to Palm Avenue and Cypress Avenue to Ferny Avenue.
Due to the gas leak, trams have been halted in the area.
Police are asking people to avoid the area if they can while the leak is addressed.
