The city's new entertainment precinct will come to life this weekend as part of the Cairns Performing Arts Centre Open Day program.
Guided tours of the $71 million CPAC, a live performance at Munro Martin Parklands headlined by Australian icon Pete Murray, and a temporary foodie haven on Florence Street, are part of the Saturday 22 June program.
Acting Mayor Terry James said the Open Day will bring all the elements of The Precinct to life.
"Our vision was to create a unique experience for our residents and visitors, with CPAC and MMP connected via Florence Street," Cr James said.
"For the first time the whole of The Precinct will be activated, giving residents a massive day of entertainment."
Music in the Parklands
Iconic Australian musician Pete Murray will headline a free family concert at Munro Martin Parklands, supported by some of our best local artists including Nikki Doll & Band, Kaweyova, Maggie Slater and DJ Cam Kennedy.
Gates open from 4pm with the live entertainment through to 10pm.
Bring the kids, a rug or low set chairs and enjoy the free live performances. No ticket required.
CPAC Tours
The doors to CPAC will be thrown wide open giving the Far North community a unique behind the scenes look at the state-of-the-art community facility.
Explore CPAC, pick up a program and enjoy a drink in the foyer.
Free guided tours of the new state-of-the-art CPAC building will depart regularly from the foyer between 11am and 8pm. No ticket required.
Meet Eat Repeat on Florence
The Meet Eat Repeat crew have planned an extensive range of gastronomical delights with 14 pop-up stalls by local restaurants and food vans to create foodie heaven on Florence Street.
The 'headline' vendors include Crystalbrook's Paper Crane at Riley, The Chambers and Ochre Restaurant.
Eat Meet Repeat will be staged on Florence Street, between Grafton and Sheridan streets, from 4pm to 10pm.
To accommodate the Open Day program, Florence Street, between Grafton and Sheridan streets, will be closed to traffic from 6am to midnight on Saturday 22 June. Munro Martin Parklands will be closed for public use from Friday 21 June, reopening noon, Sunday 23 June.
