Manly local and former National Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion, Isobel Tulevski is commencing an exciting career in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) after appointing as an Australian Army Officer.

Isobel is one of over 500 women and men from around Australia appointing as officers in the Navy, Army and Air Force this month.

The 18-year-old has embarked on one of the world's most prestigious officer courses at the Royal Military College in Canberra.

On completion of training, Isobel will be equipped to make decisions, think quickly, motivate others, and achieve results.

The 2017 National Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion for under 16/17 girls, Isobel is eager for the challenge her new career will bring, and hopes to inspire other women to follow her lead.

"I wanted a career that will take me on an adventure. I'm excited by the career and sporting opportunities on offer in the Australian Army, and knowing at the end of the day I have helped protect our country in some way," Isobel said.

"I want to inspire other girls that if you put your mind to something, you can achieve anything."

Throughout her career Isobel will have the opportunity to make positive contributions to globally-significant operations at home and abroad.

Director General of Defence Force Recruiting, Brigadier Duncan Hayward said the Royal Military College provides a solid foundation taking resourceful, ambitious civilians and setting them on a path to excel as leaders.

"Isobel and her fellow appointees will be guided and supported to overcome challenges – designed to test them both mentally and physically – in order to equip them for their future roles," Brigadier Hayward said.

"After her training, Isobel will have the skills and ability to confidently command Australian forces and achieve results beyond the individual, on behalf of all Australians."
