Free dementia education course in Rockhampton

Do you know someone recently diagnosed with dementia? Dementia Australia is holding a free community education course for Rockhampton residents affected by dementia.

Currently, an estimated 250 Australians are joining the population with dementia each day. With figures expected to grow to more than 1 million diagnosed in Australia by 2056 – it is a condition that touches many and impacts all.

In 2018, there are estimated to be more than 80,000 people living with dementia in Queensland. Without a medical breakthrough, the number of people in Queensland living with dementia is expected to increase to an estimated 105,170 people by 2025 and 233,298 people by 2056.

The aim of Dementia Australia’s education session is to provide support for Queensland residents living with dementia, as well as provide support and education to their families and carers who are also impacted.

When someone you love is diagnosed with dementia it can be a difficult time. Dementia Australia’s Living With Change course covers effective strategies to help manage daily life and keep healthy following a diagnosis to a loved one or friend.

The course is delivered in a safe, supportive and understanding environment and will also cover techniques for improved communication and the support available within the local community of Rockhampton.
