The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) is conducting hazard reduction burns in Cattai National Park, today Friday 1 March 2019.
Starting from Themeda Place, the burn along the high voltage powerline easement within Cattai National Park will include bushland along Caddie Road.
The burn in the centre of the reserve is expected to continue for some days and NPWS firefighters will continue to patrol the burn area until it's deemed safe.
People are advised that smoke from the burn may impact upon the local area and to close windows and remove washing.
Those with asthma or susceptible to respiratory problems should avoid the area or remain inside with windows and doors closed.
Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions and observe warning signs or directions from fire crews.
The NPWS will take every opportunity to continue its hazard reduction program year-round.
These burns are some of the many hazard reduction operations undertaken by NPWS across NSW each year, many with the assistance of the NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW.
This hazard reduction burn is part of the NSW Government's $76 million package over 6 years to boost bushfire preparedness and double hazard reduction in the State's national parks, where conditions allow.
