Magnitude 8.2 earthquake strikes off Alaska

An earthquake has struck in the Pacific ocean south of Alaska.

The USGS recorded the quake at a magnitude of 8.2, about 10km deep 278km southeast of Kodiak City, Alaska.

It was earlier recorded as a magnitude 8.0.

The quake prompted a tsunami warning for parts of Alaska and Canada and a tsunami watch for the entire US west coast, the U.S. Tsunami Warning System said. /radionz
