Man charged with property offences in Wollongong

A man has been charged over the alleged theft of a vehicle and property near Wollongong at the weekend, NSW Police say.

Officers from Wollongong Police District Target Action Group have been investigating the theft of a Holden Commodore utility which was stolen from the Sandon Point carpark off Blackall Street at Bulli on Sunday morning (28 October 2018).

It is alleged a stolen credit card was later used to purchase items at a number of businesses.

Following inquiries, officers attended a home on Hurt Parade at Unanderra and arrested a 37-year-old man about 10am today (Tuesday 30 October 2018).

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station as officers attended a carpark on the Princess Highway at Albion Park Rail and recovered the stolen utility.

The man was charged with steal motor vehicle, drive motor vehicle while licence suspended, dishonestly obtain property by deception (x3), and larceny.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 4 December 2018.

Duty Officer of Wollongong Police district, Inspector Walker, is reminding the public to avoid hiding your car key when you go to the beach or leaving valuable items in your parked car, even if it is locked.

"The Wollongong Target Action Group have done an excellent job investigating this crime, swiftly arresting and charging a man," Insp Walker said.
