Man located safe and well after Glengarry search

A 40 year old Launceston man reported lost on Wednesday afternoon in thick bushland in Glengarry (32 kilometres north west of Launceston) has been located safe and well.

The man had been walking with a friend when he became separated at approximately 5:00pm on Tuesday 2 February. The man attempted to find his own way out of the area, however, he became disoriented.

An extensive land and air search was launched involving volunteers, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Tasmania Police Search and Rescue personnel and the State Emergency Service.

At about 10:00pm last night, the man was located tired but uninjured by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, where he was winched to safety.

Police would like to remind the public that there is no requirement to wait 24 hours before contacting police if they believe someone is missing.

It is also a timely reminder for people to carry appropriate safety equipment, food and clothing if they are venturing out walking, no matter how short you plan your trip to be.

Tasmania Police would like to thank the people who assisted in the search.
