Mentone Life Saving Club to get $14.5 million upgrade

Kingston Council has given the green light to an estimated $14.5 million redevelopment of the Mentone Life Saving Club facility and foreshore precinct, following extensive community consultation.

Thanks to a partnership between Kingston Council and the Victorian Government the existing club will be transformed into a state-of-the-art facility with a new roof top viewing deck, a registered 'Changing Places' facility and modernised toilet and change facilities.

There will also be a separate pedestrian ramp to ensure everyone has access to the Mentone foreshore, plus major stormwater improvements to keep our bay clean.

Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley said the Life Saving Club is an important and very well-used community asset and the redevelopment is well overdue.

"Our Life Saving Clubs are crucial community facilities that provide a range of beach safety services for our residents, and visitors, coming to our beautiful foreshore areas as well as essential training in swimming and surf safety," said Cr Oxley.

"We have received a lot of feedback about what the local community would like to see for the future of the Mentone Life Saving Club and we are excited to announce this major investment that will see a new state-or-the-art facility built in its place and the opening up of the foreshore area for all members of the community to access and enjoy.

"The club has served the community for half a decade and replacing the current aged building will ensure the club's future for decades to come."

The redevelopment of the foreshore precinct will also see improved vehicle access to the lower promenade for MLSC operations and emergency vehicles, a renewal of the existing car park and significant landscaping improvements.
