New payroll jobs data released today shows the devastating reality the cut to JobKeeper payments is having on Tasmanians.
Shadow Treasurer David O'Byrne said the data revealed approximately 3000 Tasmanian jobs were lost over the past month, 650 of which were lost in tourism and hospitality in the week JobKeeper ended.
"What today's data tells us is that there were thousands of Tasmanians relying on JobKeeper who are now out of work," Mr O'Byrne said.
"After months of warnings from Labor about the end of JobKeeper, Peter Gutwein chose not to talk to his Canberra colleagues and instead gave up on the job early and called an election.
"Tasmania's tourism and hospitality sector continues to be impacted by COVID-19 and now over 650 jobs in this sector have disappeared."
Mr O'Byrne said now more than ever Tasmanians needed a majority Labor Government to deliver jobs and support for the tourism and hospitality sector.
"Only a majority Labor Government has a plan to create 35,000 jobs across the state.
"Only a majority Labor Government will support our tourism and hospitality sector.
"And only Labor is working for Tasmanians to create a better and fairer state."
