A man has been charged after allegedly smashing glass panels of a Parramatta courthouse last night.
About 7.15pm (Wednesday 15 May 2019), a man armed with a tomahawk and hammer allegedly smashed large glass panels of Parramatta Court on George Street, causing extensive damage to the building.
Officers from Parramatta Police Area Command promptly attended and arrested a 52-year-old man.
He was taken to Westmead Hospital under police guard and treated for minor lacerations to his hands and head and also underwent assessment.
He was later discharged and returned to Parramatta Police Station where he was charged with destroy or damage property more than $15,000, two counts of have custody of an offensive implement in a public place and armed with intent to commit indictable offence.
The Westmead man was granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday 19 June 2019.
