Police charge woman after home destroyed by fire at Broken Hill

A woman has been charged after a home was destroyed by fire in the state’s Far West earlier this week.

About 3.40pm on Sunday 24 January 2021, emergency services responded to reports of a fire at a home on Gaffney Lane, Broken Hill.

NSW Fire and Rescue attended and extinguished the fire; however, the house was destroyed.

No one was injured.

Officers attached to Barrier Police District attended and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 38-year-old woman was arrested at Broken Hill Police Station about 8.20pm that night.

She was charged with break and enter house destroy property, and damage property by fire.

The woman was formally refused bail at Broken Hill Local Court on Monday 25 January 2021 to reappear today (Wednesday 27 January 2021).

Police will allege the woman is known to the occupants of the home.
