An investigation is underway following the death of a man in Fitzroy North this afternoon.
Officers responded to assist Ambulance Victoria paramedics with an uncooperative male patient at a property on Cecil Street about 3.50pm.
Police restrained the man and whilst being treated by paramedics, he became unconscious and CPR was commenced.
The yet-to-be-identified man died shortly after.
The exact circumstances surrounding the man's death are yet to be determined.
Detectives from the Homicide Squad will investigate the incident with oversight from Professional Standards Command, as per standard practice where someone dies in police custody.
