Applicationswill open tomorrow for the $1 million NT Recreational Fishing Grants Scheme,which is designed to create new recreational fishing opportunities across theTerritory.
Grantsof up to $100,000 are available for Territory-based, not-for-profitorganisations to implement projects that will help grow and supportrecreational fishing in the NT.
The scheme is part of the Governments $50 million investment inrecreational fishing, which is supporting the growth of the sector to createjobs.
Potentialprojects that could be eligible for funding include:

Infrastructuresuch as fishing camps, shelters and amenities that will encourage greateraccess to new recreational fishing opportunities

Fishingplatforms, shelters, seats and structures at land-based fishing locations andboat ramps

Fishcleaning and wash-down facilities

Best-practicerecreational fishing education programs

Fishhabitat restoration

Capacitybuilding programs such as fish tagging and research

Fishingfamily days, clinics, and events
In 2018 the Amateur Fishermens Association of theNorthern Territory successfully applied for three grants, which helped open upaccess to a new fishing spot near Katherine.
Other successful applicants last year includedDarwin Game Fishing Club, Nhulunbuy Regional Sports Fishing Club, PalmerstonGame Fishing Club and Rapid Creek Landcare Group Inc.
