Two die in hospital after crash in Dapto

A man and a woman have died in hospital following a crash in Dapto earlier this week.

Just before 10am on Thursday (7 February 2019), a grey Volkswagen Tiguan travelling south on the Princes Highway has crashed into the rear of a mobile crane that was also heading south.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended and located the driver and passenger – an 80-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman – both from Miranda, trapped in the vehicle.

They were removed and were taken to Wollongong Hospital with internal injuries.

Later that day (Thursday 7 February 2019), the man was transferred to St George Hospital where he died.

The woman remained at Wollongong Hospital where she died yesterday (Saturday 9 February 2019).

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Two men travelling in the mobile crane, a 48-year-old Albion Park man and a 42-year-old Dapto man, were not injured.
