Weapons charge at Beenleigh

Beenleigh Railway Squad have charged a man with weapons and drug offences following an incident at Beenleigh Railway Station on Friday night.

At 9.40pm, the squad were monitoring CCTV of the railway station when the noticed a man acting suspiciously by loitering in near the carpark.

Police attended and spoke to the man in relation breaching COVID-19 home confinement directions as he did not have an essential reason for being in public.

While speaking with officers, police suspected the man to be under the influence of drugs.

A subsequent search of the man's backpack showed the man was carrying a loaded handgun.

A further search located a syringe and an amount of Heroin.

A 40-year-old Woodridge man has since been charged with possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in public, possession of a weapon while under the influence of a drug, possessing tainted property and failing to dispose of a syringe and needle.

He was also issued with an infringement notice for failing to comply with a COVID-19 direction issued by the Chief Health Officer (CHO).
