Police Charge Two After Aggravated Robbery - Riverina

Two men have been charged following an alleged aggravated robbery in the state's south.

About 11.15am yesterday (Monday 29 April 2024), police were called to Atkinsons Street, Finley, approximately 60km north-west of Deniliquin, following reports a man and woman had been assaulted with a metal bar and shovel.

A handbag and documents were allegedly taken, before two men fled the scene.

NSW Ambulance attended, treating the 40-year-old woman for injuries to her face, head and arms. She was taken to Deniliquin Hospital for treatment.

The 26-year-old man was treated at the scene for arm injuries but declined further treatment.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District commenced an investigation and as part of inquiries, stopped a Kia Carnival on the Riverina Highway, approximately 20km east of Deniliquin about 11.40am.

The occupants, two men - aged 29 and 34 - were arrested and taken to Deniliquin Police Station

The younger man was charged with aggravated robbery, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, break and enter intend to commit serious indictable offence.

The older man was charged with break and enter intend to commit serious indictable offence, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and aggravated robbery.

They were refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court today (Tuesday 30 April 2024).
