Processing Guarantee Secured For Farmers

Jane Howlett, Minister for Primary Industries and Water

The Tasmanian Government is providing certainty for farmers with a $430,000 grant for Tasmanian Quality Meats (TQM) to assist with the construction of a new calf yard.

Minister for Primary Industries, Jane Howlett, said the funding provides certainty of bobby calf processing for Tasmanian dairy farmers.

"TQM is the State's only large-scale lamb and bobby calf processor, processing more than 90 per cent of the sheep/lamb and 100 per cent of bobby calves," Minister Howlett said.

"The co-contribution will enable TQM to improve their processing capabilities in time for the peak processing in August, subject to material and labour availability.

"The improved facilities will improve animal welfare standards at the processing facility.

"Importantly, the funding means certainty for dairy farmers, transport operators and other businesses which rely on the processing of bobby calves."
