On Sunday, Mayor Alex Makin, Cr Libby Buckingham and Cr Louise Crawford joined Minister for Development Victoria and Precincts, the Hon. Harriet Shing and Member for Southern Metropolitan Ryan Batchelor at Clarke Reserve in Elwood to announce the successful recipients for round 1 of the Victorian Government's 'Pick My Park' program.
The City of Port Phillip is pleased to announce Council was successful in 6 applications for the newly created 'Pick my Park' grant program, which will bring much needed upgrades to green spaces and playgrounds across the municipality.
The program, delivered in partnership with the Victorian Government, allocated $250,000 from the State for each project, with council making a matching (or higher) contribution. In total, the City of Port Phillip will receive $1.5 million in State funding to revitalise local parks and open spaces.
Local community participation played a vital role in shaping these applications, with residents identifying which parks required investment, upgrades, and improved usability. As a result, the following parks and playgrounds have been selected for upgrades:
- Pakington Street, Balaclava - Integration of the existing Reserve with newly acquired land to the east
- St Kilda Botanical Gardens, St Kilda - Upgrade of the existing playspace
- Clarke Reserve, Elwood - Upgrade of the existing playspace
- Burnett Gray Gardens, Ripponlea - Upgrade of the existing playspace
- Alexandra Street Green Corridor, St Kilda East - Delivery of a new green corridor
- Fennell Reserve, Port Melbourne - Delivery of off-leash dog park.
Council values parks and open spaces as inclusive, sustainable, and essential community assets - particularly as our population continues to grow. This funding will bring upgrades to improve and revitalise existing parks and transform green spaces.
