Monash is home to almost 12,000 dogs and more than 5,600 cats and our Domestic Animal Management Plan for 2026-2029 (DAMP) will provide Council with goals and objectives focussed on animal welfare, compliance with the Domestic Animal Management Act 1994 and responsible pet ownership.

This plan has been shaped our community after over 450 people provided feedback on a draft between July and August. Your input focused on four key areas:

  • Ensuring the quick return of lost pets
  • Reducing nuisance behaviours
  • Preventing risks to the safety of people and pets
  • Ensuring the welfare of animals

Read a summary of community feedback and how our new DAMP responds on Shape Monash.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide feedback.
