More than 200 people had to be evacuated after fire broke out in a unit block in Newcastle overnight, NSW Police say.
Emergency services were called to the apartments on King Street about 10pm (26 August 2017), after a fire began in a unit on the 13th floor.
About 200 residents gathered in the foyer while Fire & Rescue NSW fire fighters attended.
The building’s sprinkler system extinguished the fire, containing it to one bedroom.
All occupants were allowed back into their apartments about 12.15am tomorrow after Fire & Rescue personnel had cleared the units.
Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command have been told the fire was caused by an electrical appliance.
