Council awarded two applications for funding totalling $500 under the 2020/21 Council Community Strengthening Grants Scheme (Youth Development Category) at its March Ordinary meeting.
The 'Youth Development' Grant Category is offered at a set amount of $250 per applicant and is available to support high achievement in a cultural, academic or sporting activity that requires attendance at a State, National or International level event.
Council congratulates the following grant recipients:
- Raith Henman, who was awarded $250 to assist with the costs associated with representing Leeton and the Riverina at the New South Wales Combined High Schools Sport Association Swimming and Diving State Championships in Sydney.
Raith was selected as one of the members of the Riverina team as result of competing in and placing in the Boys 100m Butterfly at the Riverina Secondary Swimming Championships held in Leeton on 1 March 2021.
- Kian Henman, who was awarded $250 to assist with the costs associated with representing Leeton and the Riverina at the New South Wales Combined High Schools Sports Association Swimming and Diving State Championships in Sydney.
Kian was selected as one of the members of the Riverina team as result of competing in and placing in the Boys Under 13 4x50m Freestyle Relay at the Riverina Secondary Swimming Championships held in Leeton.
Mayor Cr Paul Maytom said, "Council is delighted to be able to provide some financial assistance to Raith and Kian to support their high achievements in sport. Council wishes Raith and Kian all the very best at the upcoming championships."
