2021 Henry Jones Art Prize

Elise Archer,Minister for Arts

It was my great pleasure today to launch the 2021 Henry Jones Art Prize.

The Henry Jones Art Hotel plays an important role in supporting Tasmanian artists, and provides a unique platform to showcase local arts to visitors and art lovers from around Australia, and indeed the world prior to COVID.

Our Government is a strong supporter of the arts in Tasmania and we recognise the value of our cultural and creative industries that are vitally important to tourism, the economy and integral to the story of Tasmania.

That's why we have announced over $12 million additional funding and support to the cultural and creative sector in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Henry Jones Art Prize is dedicated to supporting emerging and early career Tasmanian artists, with $20,000 allocated for the winner.

In its short history, the prize has grown significantly and is recognised as an important platform to unearth talent, and support the professional development of new artists.

I encourage our Tasmanian emerging artists to get their entries in soon, as this prize really does present a wonderful opportunity.
