2023 Board Advisory Groups

The PWDA Board have opened nominations for the PWDA Board Advisory Groups.

The Board Advisory Groups which are seeking new members are:

  • Governance Advisory Group
  • Membership and Engagement Advisory Group
  • Strategic Directions Advisory Group

This is an opportunity for PWDA Members who have lived experience of disability and would like to:

  • Contribute to the work of PWDA in a voluntary capacity,
  • Work with other members to offer PWDA advice about major issues that affect people with lived experience of disability,
  • Make sure all our members' voices are heard through participatory, inclusive and accessible processes,
  • Work together with other members on ways to reduce barriers to participation; and
  • Connect with other people with lived experience of disability.

Governance Advisory Group

The PWDA Governance Advisory Group is:

  • Composed of up to seven PWDA members, including up to three Ordinary Members in a voluntary capacity.
  • Selected through an open-call process and composed of individuals with lived experience of disability from diverse backgrounds including people from regional areas, diversity in genders/sexualities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people, diverse disability types, race/ethnicity and age to ensure the experience and expertise is reflective of the excluded groups we aim to support and amplify.
  • The commitment is a voluntary two-year term.

Selection Criteria and Process

PWDA Governance Advisory Group members will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • A person with lived experience of disability,
  • A person who is a member of PWDA (or prepared to become a member),
  • A person who is committed and interested to supporting the work of PWDA,
  • Interested in governance or raising your capacity and skills regarding governance issues, polices and procedural processes,
  • Able to connect virtually (by Zoom or teleconference),
  • Able to commit to attending and contributing to the Governance Advisory Group (on a monthly basis).

Selection Process

PWDA Governance Advisory Group selection process will be carried out in a transparent, inclusive and participatory manner.

  • Once the fourteen (14) day deadline is closed, the PWDA Governance & Compliance Coordinator will forward nominations to the Governance Advisory Group Convenor.
  • The Governance Advisory Group Convener will decide on the new members.
