206 Charged in State Flying Squad Crime Crackdown

Police from the Far North District supported by the State Flying Squad have charged 206 people with 620 offences following a week-long deployment.

Between April 30 and May 6, specialist police and local officers from General Duties, the Tactical Crime Squad, Dog Squad, Property Crime Unit, Child Protection and Investigation Unit, Criminal Investigation Branch, Intel, Special Investigations Unit, Highway Patrol and Police Helicopter targeted high-risk domestic violence offenders, youth crime, property offences and road safety.

Of the 206 people charged, 44 were young people.

On Monday May 5, police were called to Lake Street after two people allegedly stole cash from a business and assaulted an employee, before trying to enter parked cars.

It is further alleged the pair approached a vehicle parked in a driveway nearby, opened the car doors, and demanded the occupants get out before a struggle ensued.

Police allege the woman bit a 55-year-old Brisbane woman on the arm, before officers arrived.

A 28-year-old Parramatta Park woman has been charged with two counts of robbery in company, and one count each of attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle in company, assault occasioning bodily harm in company and possess dangerous drugs.

A 29-year-old Cairns North man has been charged with two counts of robbery in company, and one count each of attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle in company and assault occasioning bodily harm in company.

Police bail was refused, and the pair was scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on May 6.

Officers from the Far North Tactical Crime Squad arrested four people following the theft of several vehicles on May 5.

It will be alleged a man and three teenage boys broke into a Trinity Beach business and stole the vehicles, before they were abandoned in Manunda, Edmonton, Brinsmead and Edge Hill.

Officers supported by the police helicopter and Far North Dog Squad arrested all four shortly after a blue MG5 was abandoned in Edge Hill.

Detectives charged a 16-year-old Edmonton boy with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Another 16-year-old Earlville boy was charged with one count of break and enter and four counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle.

A 19-year-old Bungalow man was charged with one count each of dangerous driving, unlicenced driving and enter premises and commit, and two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

All three were refused bail and were scheduled to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court and Cairns Magistrates Court on May 6.

A 14-year-old Bungalow boy was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court today, May 7.

On May 1, officers from the State Flying Squad were conducting patrols of Cairns Central Shopping Centre when they intercepted a 17-year-old Kuranda boy for a wanding in accordance with Jack's Law.

It will be alleged the boy was in possession of a knife, and a quantity of methylamphetamine.

He was charged with possession dangerous drugs, possession of a knife in a public place, obstruct police office and breach of bail.

He was issued a notice to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on May 8.

Detective Acting Inspector Cindy Searle said the number of offenders and charges laid highlights the Queensland Police Service's (QPS) commitment to keeping the Far North community safe.

"We're grateful to the State Flying Squad for their support over the last week and want to assure the community that our work to hold high-risk offenders to account does not end after they leave," Detective Acting Inspector Searle said.

"While it may not always be visible to the public, our officers are extremely dedicated and work hard every day to disrupt, deter and prevent offending in our community."

The deployment also focused heavily on targeting high-risk domestic violence offenders and supporting victim-survivors.

During the deployment, 55 breach of a domestic violence order offences were preferred.

May 1 marked the beginning of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.

Superintendent Mick Searle said domestic and family violence is a community issue that requires a collaborative, preventative approach.

"Our priority is keeping victim-survivors safe, holding perpetrators to account and strengthening our frontline response to DFV," Superintendent Mick Searle said.

"This year's Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month theme is taking positive action today to build a safer Queensland and calls on everyone to work towards ending violence in our homes and communities."

The State Flying Squad will continue to deploy to regions across the state.

1:27 – 1:48 – QP2500747931 On May 4, police intercepted a vehicle and located a 35-year-old Woree man who was wanted in relation to alleged breaches of a domestic violence order. He was charged with two counts of contravene a domestic violence order (aggravated offence) and breach of bail condition. He was scheduled to appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court on May 5.

1:48 – 2:20 – QP2500768387 On May 4, police attended an address to locate a 35-year-old Manunda man in relation to an alleged breach of a domestic violence order. During his arrest, the man spat on a police officer. He was charged with four counts of contravene a domestic violence order, two counts each of wilful damage and serious assault police officer, and one count of common assault (domestic violence offence). He was refused bail to appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court on May 5.

2:20 – 2:37 – QP2500745081 On May 4, police arrested a 46-year-old Redlynch man. He was charged with four counts of common assault (domestic violence offence), three counts of contravene a domestic violence order, and one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence offence), grievous bodily harm (domestic violence offence), threatening violence (domestic violence offence), and possessing dangerous drugs. He was remanded in custody to appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court on May 5.

2:37 – 3:30 – QP2500758460 On May 3, police charged a 17-year-old Mareeba boy in relation to several alleged property offences on the Tablelands. He was charged with 17 offences including four counts each of stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, three counts of enter dwelling and commit and two counts of enter premises and commit. He was refused bail to appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court on May 5.

3:30 – 4:11 – QP2500732846 On April 30, officers from the Far North Tactical Crime Squad attended a Brinsmead caravan park conducting investigations in relation to an incident at Mission Beach on April 28.

Around 9.30am, Mission Beach were conducting patrols when they intercepted a Toyota Landcruiser on Wheatley Road. The vehicle allegedly stopped, before reversing and ramming the police vehicle.

A female police officer sustained minor injuries. The driver, a 37-year-old Wongaling Beach man allegedly fled in the Landcruiser. The man was arrested in Brinsmead and charged with one count each of damaging emergency vehicle when operating motor vehicle, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence and obstruct police officer. He refused bail and due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on May 1.

4:11 – 4:44 – QP2500741794 On April 30, officers from the Innisfail Criminal Investigation Branch intercepted a vehicle on Lyons Road. It will be alleged officers located drug utensils, a quantity of MDMA, and more than $5000 in cash. The driver, a 52-year-old Belvedere man was charged with possessing dangerous drugs, possess property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, and possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence.

He was due to appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court on May 1.

4:44 – 5:09 QP2500741673 On April 30, officers from the Innisfail Criminal Investigation Branch conducted a search at a Goondi Bend property. It will be alleged a 33-year-old man, and 25-year-old woman were in possession of dangerous drugs. Both were charged with one count each of supplying dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 3 but less than Schedule 4, possessing dangerous drugs, possess property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offences, possessing anything for use in the commission of a crime, and possess tainted property. The 33-year-old Goondi Bend man was also charged with one count each of failure to appear in accordance with undertaking. Both were refused bail and scheduled to appear in the Tully Magistrates Court on May 1.

5:50 – end QP2500728989 On May 2, police executed a search warrant at an Atherton address in relation to several stolen vehicles. It will be alleged a 39-year-old man was involved in multiple offences, including the dangerous operation of a stolen Nissan Navara at Babinda on April 25, the theft of an Isuzu D-Max on April 17, and the theft of a dingy from Tingira Street on March 17. He was charged with four counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence, three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts each of stealing, receiving tainted property, and one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, trespass, contravening order about information necessary to access information stored electronically, attempted enter premises and driving of a motor vehicle without a driver licence.

He was refused bail to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on May 2.
