Tassie winemakers are set for a big New Year with a $250,000 grant to lure more overseas tourists.
Minister for Agriculture David Littleproud said the money would be used to attract big-spending visitors from China and the US.
"Tassie has some of Australia’s best food and wine and we want to share it with the world," Minister Littleproud said.
"Tasmania has stunning landscapes, idyllic rural communities and top food and wine which makes it a getaway to remember.
"This will unlock Tasmania’s gourmet secrets so overseas visitors get the best out of their trip.
"It will also make local wines more prominent on the world stage and help increase export prices.
Tasmanian Nationals Senator Steve Martin said wine now contributed as much to the economy as meat and dairy and was helping regional Tasmania drive the state’s economy.
"Wine tourism is already worth $15 million a year and more than 200 full time equivalent jobs; this grant from the Nationals in Government will further increase those numbers," Senator Martin said.
"We are experiencing a huge growth in Chinese tourists and we want them to go home as Tasmanian wine ambassadors."
The grant is part of the $50 million Export and Regional Wine Support Package to increase wine exports to $3.5 billion and attract 40,000 extra international wine tourists, worth $170 million.
