$2.9M upgrade at Angas Recreation Park

Barossa Mayor Bim Lange has welcomed the news that $881,000 in Office of Recreation Sport and Racing, SANFL, SACA and Netball SA Grassroots Round 2 grant funding will flow to Angaston Recreation Park as part of a $2.9 million facilities upgrade under The Barossa Council's 'Big Project'.

"We know our recreation facilities are facing upward pressure so this funding comes at just the right time to support expanded competition and more participation, especially with the growth of women's and junior sport," Mayor Lange said.

"Importantly, we have worked closely with SACA and SANFL to ensure our facilities and ovals meet contemporary standards. This reinforces our joint commitment to establishing the Barossa as a premier regional sports event tourism destination for AFL and cricket in South Australia.

"Angaston is a multi-use sports and community precinct. A new junior oval, cricket nets and upgraded change rooms and community spaces will improve our capacity to attract and host high-profile sporting events. It also supports a healthy grass-roots competition and increased local participation, health and wellbeing outcomes across multiple codes including AFL, netball and cricket.

"We're also grateful to local sporting and community clubs who are at the heart of our community and support our vision for The Big Project and are providing significant financial contributions to achieve this project together."

The project is set to commence 2020.
