$3.5 million worth of watches seized after search warrant at jewellery store, NSW

Officers have seized high-end watches and cash after a search warrant at a jewellery store in Bondi Junction as part of a joint investigation into the fraudulent sale of jewellery, NSW Police say.

Acting on information, Strike Force Donwy officers executed a search warrant at the jewellery store about 10.30am yesterday (Thursday 19 July 2018) seizing 138 watches valued at more than $3.5 million and over $270,000 in cash.

Strike Force Donwy, comprising of officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command and State Crime Command’s Pawnbrokers Unit with the assistance of Australian Federal Police, Australian Border Force and NSW Fair Trading, was formed in June 2018 to investigate the fraudulent sale of luxury watches throughout Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

It comes after a 43-year-old man was arrested earlier this month after allegedly purchasing a ‘Rolex’ watch fraudulently from the store. He was charged with dishonestly obtain property by deception, possess identity information to commit indictable offence and deal with property proceeds of crime.

The man appeared at Waverly Local Court on Wednesday 6 June 2018 where he was refused bail to re-appear at Parramatta Drug Court on Wednesday 29 August 2018.

Investigations are continuing.
