Minister for Planning and Housing, Anthony Roberts, and Minister for Roads, Melinda Pavey, today announced $32.2 million in roads funding across Sydney and regional NSW to help ease congestion and connect communities.
The $32.2 million of funding comes from the latest round of the Housing Acceleration Fund (HAF), under the Government's Restart NSW program.
Since the HAF grant program began in 2012, the total Government commitment is over $1.3 billion.
Mr Roberts said the grants would fund the planning and design of eight Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) projects.
"This funding will help solve some of the biggest traffic headaches and make it safer for motorists and people living in those communities," Minister Roberts said.
"We've heard loud and clear – the community sees these roads as pinch points and we are doing our bit to help ease congestion."
Planning and design work projects include:
- $10 million to identify options to upgrade the Australia Avenue/Homebush Bay Drive intersection, Homebush Bay;
- $6.4 million to upgrade the Concord Road/Homebush Bay Drive intersection, Rhodes;
- $5 million to upgrade Menangle Road, from Mount Gilead to Macarthur);
- $4 million for final business case for Epping Station overbridge widening;
- $3.3 million for intersection upgrade at Norwest Boulevard/Lexington Drive, Bella Vista;
- $1.5 million for Kissing Point Road upgrade investigation works, Rydalmere;
- $1 million for an intersection upgrade where Main Road connects with the Hunter Expressway, Heddon Greta; and
- $1 million to upgrade the Minmi Road/Newcastle Link Road intersection, Cameron Park.
"Delivering key road infrastructure in all these communities is important for safety and future growth," Roads Minister, Melinda Pavey, said.
"Improving traffic flow around the Australia Avenue/Homebush Bay Drive intersection will support the major arterial road connecting Sydney with the future Western Sydney Airport."
Mr Roberts said HAF grants end roadblocks that previously meant development opportunities were passed over due to lack of funding for essential, forward-looking local infrastructure.
"It is a priority for this government to ensure funding is delivered for essential infrastructure where there is a changing population," he said.
