The Marshall Liberal Government has today welcomed an announcement made by Federal Communications Minister, Paul Fletcher and Telstra that Adelaide will be home to a new contact centre, employing 45 new people to utilise new digital technology relating to Australia’s Triple Zero service.
The new centre is the third of its kind, with Melbourne and Sydney housing the first two centres.
Minister for Emergency Services, Corey Wingard, said this announcement was two pronged, firstly by creating 45 new jobs right here in South Australia and secondly, providing a major capacity boost for Australia’s incredibly important Triple Zero Service.
“This is a real coup for South Australia and proves our State is at the forefront of major companies minds when setting up new offices,” Minister Wingard said.
“Forty-five new jobs is a substantial boost to our local economy and proves what this State Government is doing to create a competitive environment in which to invest is paying dividends.”
The new 20 seat, 24-hour Adelaide centre will work hand in hand with the two other centres based in Sydney and Melbourne, which are designed to ensure the first available Telstra agent answers the 000 caller as quickly as possible, regardless of caller location.
Telstra will then determine their location and type of service required, and transfer them to the relevant emergency service in that state/territory to dispatch the required service.
“Last year, Telstra connected nearly 422,000 calls to SA emergency services, proving just how vital this service is to the community,” Minister Wingard said.
“With 75.4% of Triple Zero calls now originating from mobile phones, it’s absolutely vital new digital technology is used to further enhance the Triple Zero service.
This is an exciting announcement for South Australia, and I would like to thank Telstra and the Federal Government for investing in our great State,” Minister Wingard concluded.
