The waste and recycling industry takes centre stage as the Victorian Government announced grants worth $4.7 million under the Resource Recovery Infrastructure Fund (RRIF) to support industry driven projects worth $18.7 million.
Administered by Sustainability Victoria, RRIF-funded projects will ensure that the waste and recycling industry will have the capacity and capability to recycle locally generated waste materials into high value commodities right here in Victoria.
Carl Muller, Interim CEO of Sustainability Victoria said, "Recycling infrastructure is vital to allow for increased capacity to recover valuable materials that can be used in other manufacturing sectors."
"These exciting and innovative projects will divert more than 149,000 tonnes of materials from landfill, drive a strong circular economy that maximises the reuse and recycling of materials and reduce waste."
RRIF funding supports:
- the recovery of recycled materials
- expansion of major recycling facilities for kerbside, construction and demolition
- commercial and industrial waste
- improvement in the quality of collected and sorted materials suitable for commercial use.
With a strong industry development focus, the Victorian Government is delivering a comprehensive suite of waste and resource recovery initiatives of more than $50 million to develop and grow a sustainable resource recovery network for all Victorians and build the state's capacity to respond to the ever-shifting global trends.
