$750K in Cigarettes, Tobacco Seized at Gundagai Stop

A man has been charged after cigarettes and tobacco worth more than $750,000 were seized during a road stop in the state's south.

About 1.35pm yesterday (Thursday 18 December 2025), officers attached to Riverina Highway Patrol Command, stopped a van on the southbound lane of the Hume Highway, Gundagai, for the purpose of random testing.

Police searched the van and seized 400kg of loose-leaf tobacco, 235,000 illicit cigarettes, which have an estimated combined street value of $752,000.

The man was issued with a field court attendance notice for goods in custody, to appear in Gundagai Local Court on Friday 13 February 2026.
