82-year-old woman victim of home invasion in Brewarrina

Investigations are underway after an 82-year-old woman was the victim of a home invasion at Brewarrina overnight, NSW Police say.

Police from Darling River Local Area Command have been told the woman was in bed in her home on Wilson Street, Brewarrina, when she heard a window smash about 10pm yesterday.

A man – who had his face partially covered – then entered her room, demanding cash and jewellery. He took a small amount of money and the woman’s engagement ring, eternity ring and a signet ring.

When the man left the house she called police.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information about the theft.

Police have a description of a man they believe can assist with this investigation.

He is described as being 20 to 30 years of age, with a tall build and possibly of Caucasian appearance. At the time he was wearing a grey jumper and black baseball cap. His face was partly covered.

The woman was shaken but not physically hurt by the incident and is being cared for by friends.

Police urged anyone with information about the incident – or who may be offered rings for sale – to contact Brewarrina Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
