A boost for Tasmania's bus fleet

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Infrastructure and Transport

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to providing an integrated public transport network that connects Tasmanians with essential services, employment and education.

Through our investment into road and public transport infrastructure, the Hodgman majority Liberal Government is providing confidence for our bus industry to invest and grow their fleets.

In a major sign of confidence in our transport sector, Tassielink Transit and Manions Coaches are investing $3.5 million into purchasing seven new buses.

The new buses balance the comfort of a longer distance 'coach style' bus with the accessibility of an urban low floor bus – which means they have improved accessibility for a higher number of travellers with mobility walkers and prams.

Through our state-wide Bus Services Review we are making services quicker, more frequent and taking people where the want to go, while providing confidence for the industry to invest and grow.

The Government is also improving public transport through our $45 million investment in 100 new, Tasmanian-made buses for the Metro fleet. This vital project is on time, on budget, creating jobs in North-West Tasmania and boosting our advanced manufacturing sector.

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government has a long-term plan for Tasmania and we are delivering it. In contrast, Labor has no plan, they stand for nothing and they simply cannot be trusted.

It's clear that through building a strong economy, Tasmania's businesses are now the most confident in the nation and are investing for growth.
