A Night of Crime with Mark Brandi

Sunshine Coast Council Libraries invite avid crime readers to enjoy an evening with award-winning author Mark Brandi at Maroochydore Library from 6pm on Tuesday 27 August.

This special Sunshine Coast Libraries literary event is part of the 2019 Horizon Festival program.

Mark will talk about his latest book, The Rip, life as an author and his career in the justice system.

The Rip was inspired by Melbourne's growing street drug problems and homelessness. It brings Melbourne's criminal underground to life and is already receiving critical acclaim.

In 2018, Mark's debut bestselling novel, Wimmera, won the coveted British Crime Writers' Association Debut Dagger, and was named Best Debut at the 2018 Australian Indie Book Awards.

It was also shortlisted for the Australian Book Industry Awards Literary Fiction Book of the Year, and the Matt Richell Award for New Writer of the Year.

His shorter work has appeared in The Guardian, The Age, The Big Issue, and in journals in Australia and overseas. His writing is also heard on ABC Radio National.

Graduating with a criminal justice degree, Mark worked extensively in the justice system, before changing direction and deciding to write.

Originally from Italy, he grew up in rural Victoria. Mark now lives in Melbourne and is already working on his next fiction work.

Mark's books will be available for purchase and signed at the venue.

Tickets are $25 per person and bookings are essential via council's library website library.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au.

Michael will be joined by special guest, My Weekly Preview journalist Roxanne McCarty-O'Kane.

Enjoy live music by talented local artist Andrea Kirwin.

Light refreshments are provided and a cash wine bar is available from 6pm.
