Governments across Australia are standing in solidarity today to send a strong message of support for all domestic and family violence victims and survivors.
Attorney General and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence Mark Speakman said the National Implementation Plan published today reflects the considerable breadth of initiatives underway to address the scourge of domestic violence.
"This is about everyone across the country coming together to say that we will not accept domestic and family violence, and we are absolutely united in our resolve to change community attitudes and behaviours that drive violence against women," Mr Speakman said.
Mr Speakman said the plan sets out collectively more than 160 specific initiatives.
"In NSW, this includes a record $431 million investment to deliver enhanced health services, proactive policing strategies, comprehensive court support for victims, refuges, and safe and affordable housing," Mr Speakman said.
"It's fitting that the launch also marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – a global movement to raise awareness and end gender-based violence."
Mr Speakman said for the first time, key milestones and intended outcomes have been detailed to ensure everyone delivers for victims and survivors in a meaningful way.
"This ensures greater accountability and transparency for all Australian governments to show how we are working to support women and children fleeing violence," Mr Speakman said.
This implementation strategy across all Australian jurisdictions will support the delivery of the Fourth Action Plan of the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010-2022.
