ABS Figures Confirm Energy Price Jump Under Labor

Liberal Party Victoria
Victorians are paying more for power under the Allan Labor Government as new data confirms significant prices increases for gas and electricity over the past 12 months.

Recent Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) CPI figures show in the twelve months to the end of November, Melbourne energy prices surged. Electricity increased 15.5 per cent, and gas was up 4.3 per cent, far exceeding the general CPI rate in the 12 months to November 2025 (3 per cent).

The rise in electricity prices between November 2024 to November 2025 is more than three times the increase of the general CPI rate.

These price increase follow the recent warning from the Victorian-Auditor General that Victoria will not meet its legislated 2032 offshore wind target, that key transmission projects have been delayed and that Victoria face gas shortages from this year.

Shadow Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction, David Davis, said: "This significant energy prices increase will place further cost-of-living pressures on Victorians who are already struggling to make ends meet.

"Labor's long-term Energy Minister Lily D'Amboriso is always saying energy prices are 'down, down', but actually Victorian families are paying more, more under Labor.

"Labor cannot manage money, cannot manage our energy system and Victorians are paying the price."
